The Berry House (Berry Cottage) in Stephenville was built in 1869 by Colonel J. D. Berry with mason J. J. Wyatt, using native limestone in a Victorian cottage form marked by a steeply pitched roof, narrow shuttered windows and gingerbread trim. Regarded as the oldest house in Stephenville, it was purchased in the mid-1960s and restored through public donations organized by the Stephenville Study Club. It was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1967 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and today anchors the Stephenville Historical House Museum on East Washington Street.
