History

Ranger received its first post office in December 1880, when James M. Davis was appointed postmaster of the new railroad town. The community boomed after the 1917 McCleskey No. 1 oil strike made it "Roaring Ranger," and the old post office building is noted for Emil Bistram's 1939 WPA-era mural "The Crossroads Town."
