The Eastland County Courthouse, the county's fourth, was completed in 1928-1929 with profits from the 1917 oil boom. Dudley Green designed the Art Deco building in the Dallas office of the firm Lang and Witchell, composing it as advancing and receding masses around a central six-story block. The courthouse is famous for 'Old Rip,' a horned toad sealed in the cornerstone of the 1897 courthouse and found alive when that building was demolished in 1928.
