History

Lord Cemetery is an 1879 pioneer burial ground on a ridge overlooking Boggy Creek outside Westhoff in DeWitt County. It is associated with George Lord, an Essex-born adventurer who reached Galveston in 1837 to serve the Republic of Texas and later settled in the area. The cemetery received a Historic Texas Cemetery designation in 2004.
