George Washington Davis was an early DeWitt Colony settler active in the Texas independence movement. He served as a delegate to the 1833 Convention and to the 1835 Consultation, fought at the Battle of Gonzales in 1835, and served in the Texas army in 1836. He is honored among the colonists who held land grants in DeWitt County, and his name appears on the county's 1936 Centennial monument at Cuero.
