St. Michael's parish was established in Cuero in 1875 after the Cuero Land and Immigration Company donated a church site, and a small frame church was built in 1876. Following an 1886 storm and construction difficulties, a Gothic white-brick church was completed in 1892, and the present Romanesque-style tapestry-brick church was finished in 1931. The property is part of Cuero's National Register historic resources listed in 1988, and the parish marked its 150th anniversary in 2025.
