History

Physician, surveyor, and planter Charles William Tait began this Columbus home in 1856, completing it after service in the 4th Texas Cavalry during the Civil War. Built with local materials including cottonwood siding and handmade brick, it anchored one of Colorado County's largest plantations. A state marker was placed in 1965.
