History

Tecula Cemetery, northeast of Jacksonville in Cherokee County, began before the Civil War beside a log schoolhouse on land donated by a Mr. Stockton and a Mr. Wallace. Many of its graves are unmarked and arranged without formal rows. A cemetery association was organized in 1958 to maintain the grounds, and the site has since received a Historic Texas Cemetery designation.
