History

St. John's grew from an Episcopal mission organized in Brownwood in 1886 and became a self-supporting parish in 1888; its Gothic Revival limestone church was built in 1892. A shipping error sent the parish stained-glass windows intended for a St. Peter's church in Japan, and the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
