Attorney William R. Cavitt built this two-story Italianate brick house about 1880, the same decade he married Mary Mitchell, a niece of Brazos County pioneer Harvey Mitchell. Cavitt served as county attorney and later in the Texas Legislature and on the Texas A&M board, and the family added Colonial Revival details in the 1920s while keeping the home until 1978. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, it is among Bryan's oldest residences.
