History

Thomas Jefferson Callihan (1817-1880), born in Illinois, was a veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto who settled at Liverpool in Brazoria County after marrying in 1838. He is said to have built wharves and schooners on Chocolate Bayou and made his living hauling goods from area plantations to Galveston. The state placed a granite marker in his honor in 1936; it now stands at the Liverpool Cemetery.
