Round Mountain became a stop on the stage and mail route between Austin and Fredericksburg, and the first floor of its stable dates to the early 1850s. In 1874 the widow Elitha Martin bought the stable and 300 acres to raise her seven children, and over time the property served as inn, post office, general store, and blacksmith shop. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it is cited as one of only about 40 stagecoach inns so recognized nationally and the only such stable listed in Texas.
