The Rialto Theater in downtown Beeville opened on August 19, 1922, presenting Douglas Fairbanks in "The Three Musketeers" in a 542-seat auditorium originally designed by W.C. Stephenson, architect of the Bee County Courthouse. Gutted by fire in 1936, it was rebuilt in Art Deco style with an extensively neon-lit marquee and operated until it closed in 1986. Now owned by a local preservation association and undergoing restoration, the Rialto is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and one of only a handful of historic movie theaters between Houston and McAllen listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
