History

Also known as the Elgin Mexican or Latin Cemetery, this burial ground in Elgin was formally established in 1915, though its earliest grave dates to 1904. It reflects the Mexican-American community drawn to Bastrop County in the 1910s to work in the area's brickyards and on the railroad, many after fleeing the Mexican Revolution. The cemetery holds about 115 graves and was designated a Historic Texas Cemetery in 2023.
