Captain John Campbell Hunt (1811-1840), born in Alabama, was a veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto who later served as a captain in the Army of Texas. He died in 1840, and the State of Texas erected his marker in 1936 near Powell Cemetery outside Smithville in Bastrop County.
