The Jenkins House in Bastrop was built about 1836 for Sarah Jenkins and began as a single-room log cabin. It was enlarged into a two-room log house with a central 'dog-trot' passage, then over the years gained a kitchen-and-dining ell; eventually the dog-trot was enclosed as a hall, the log walls were sided with clapboard, and a full-length porch was added, giving the house its present Victorian appearance. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 22, 1978.
