History
Aransas County was created in 1871 from the coastal portion of Refugio County and is among the smallest counties in Texas. Its shoreline embraces three bays of the Gulf of Mexico: Copano, St. Charles, and Aransas. Rockport, founded by cattlemen in 1867, became the county seat, and this marker was erected by the Texas Historical Commission in 1990.
