History

The present Angelina County Courthouse in Lufkin was built in 1954-1955 in the Moderne style by architect Wilbur Kent, with Temple Associates as contractor. It replaced a picturesque 1903 courthouse designed by the celebrated Texas architect James Riely Gordon. In 1962 the building was substantially altered when its clock tower and upper floor were removed and wings were added to the north and south sides by the firm Rittenberry & Rittenberry.
